I heard it first, quite appropriately, from my school's secretary. It was 4pm, and I ran around telling all of the other teachers.
We sarcastically exclaimed, "We did it! It's over!"
Of course, that's not true. Instead, Bloomberg named Cathie Black the new chancellor, chairman of Hearst Magazines and one of Forbes 100 most powerful women.
Perfect! Nobody could be more appropriate to run the largest school system in the country than somebody who knows nothing about schools and might have a larger corporate-reform mindset than Klein. I initially thought the guy who sits in the staff parking lot at my school and collects a dollar from everyone to ensure their cars don't get broken into might apply for the position, BUT he probably knows more about schools than Cathie Black so.... it's apparently a no go.
