School Violence

I returned from New Orleans to Oak Ridge, TN (my former home of nine years) tonight to learn that a teacher in my former district of Knox County was accused of shooting his principal and assistant principal today.

You can read the story here.

This is definitely a chilling reminder of what people (especially people like this guy, who apparently had demonstrated repeatedly that he was unstable) can be capable of when their jobs are on the line. Just a reminder that when you see the kind of behavior that this guy was accused of prior to the shooting (threatening people and their familes, being unusually hostile toward staff and students, etc), it's incredibly important that you report it. And it's incredibly important that those people who gather documented allegations of misconduct act quickly to remove such people and get them help.

Just something to think about.

Also: Glad to be out of DC during the snow of the century.
