Contact Bill Turque

More than a few people have requested that I post a link to Bill Turque's post concerning his search for teachers who have left DCPS in the past three or four years. He's working on a story about teacher attrition and would like to talk to as many of them as possible. So, if you're one of them, please contact Mr. Turque. Here's the link:

Don't worry, I've already talked to him.

  1. Good luck to you. I just crossed the 20 year mark at a "large metropolitan inner city school district." The Administration has always been the biggest impediment. The students themselves are great (95% that is). But I don't understand you desire to get a doctorate in education. You must want to be an administrator. It certainly won't improve your teaching abilities. That's all on the job training. You might think that as an administrator you'd have power over education. Not really true. Teachers have tenure and that's what protects you from bad administrators (which are most of them). Administrators have no such protection. You don't play ball, and they get rid of you quick. Also, teachers have all the real power as far as actual education is concerned. Maybe that's not your plan. If you stay, be prepared for a perennial conflict with administration. That's the way it is, sad to say.

  2. I hope you will be contacting Turque about your story. Recently, I wrote on The Washington Teacher blog about another DCPS teacher who resigned just last week. Hope you and others will check it out @
